Program Topic
The Interagency ADR Working Group Luncheon Program on Wednesday, July 19, 2000 will be presented by Ernst & Young's Legal Management Services (LMS) Group. LMS specializes in assisting organizations with a multidisciplinary approach to the design and implementation of conflict management programs for employment, consumer, commercial, and other disputes. The topic of their presentation will be "Implementation of Conflict Management Programs: Marketing and Communication." The presentation will include an overview of "best practices" with respect to the marketing and communication components of a comprehensive conflict management program, including obtaining "buy-in" and creating materials for effective communication.
Presenter Backgrounds
Jeff Paquin, Michelle Wecksler and Jennifer Victor are the practice leaders for Legal Management Services. They specialize in working with organizations, their legal departments, and their law firms in the areas of conflict prevention, analysis, resolution, and management and training related to these areas, including negotiation, communication, problem-solving, mediation, and arbitration. They have served as project managers for the design and implementation of conflict management programs for many of the Fortune 500, including General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, PaineWebber, Prudential, and United Parcel Service.
Jeff Paquin, National Practice Leader for Legal Management Services, was formerly chief
litigation counsel for a Fortune 50 company, where he was also responsible for the overall
management of the company's ADR programs, litigation, inside-outside litigation counsel and
vendor relations, and legal technology. In addition, Mr. Paquin has worked in a large law firm
environment, where he was a senior litigation associate and chair of the firm's ADR practice as
well as chair of its training development committee. Since 1988, he has served as an arbitrator
and mediator for the American Arbitration Association and for several court-annexed ADR
programs and has been certified by the State of Georgia as a qualified ADR neutral. He is
admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, the District of Columbia Bar, the Supreme Court of the
United States, and other state and federal courts. Jeff is on the Editorial Advisory Boards of
several legal management publications, and he speaks regularly on topics related to legal
industry trends, legal cost control and management, ADR, and litigation management. He
received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky, where he was Executive Editor of the
Kentucky Law Journal, and his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where he
graduated with high honors.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Michelle Joy Wecksler worked as an administrative attorney and full-time mediator for a state government agency, where she served as a mediator in nearly one thousand disputes. In addition, Ms. Wecksler has served as a consultant and trainer in the areas of negotiation, ADR, litigation management, communications, problem-solving methodology, and leadership skills. She has led training programs for many Fortune 500 companies, including Delta Air Lines and Nationwide Insurance. She has also provided training for the Environmental Protection Agency, Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., and the W.J. Usery, Jr. Center for the Workplace at Georgia State University. Prior to such activities, she was employed by a national ADR services firm, where she was a consultant and trainer in the areas of litigation management and ADR. Ms. Wecksler is also an adjunct professor at Georgia State University, where she teaches courses on negotiation, ADR, litigation management and business law in the College of Business Administration. Ms. Wecksler is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. She received her J.D. from the University of Oregon and graduated with high distinction with her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
Jennifer Victor was formerly Deputy Director of the Georgia Supreme Court's Office of Dispute Resolution, where her experience included developing and implementing ADR programs. Ms. Victor also regularly provided consulting and training to judges and lawyers in the areas of conflict prevention and management, early neutral evaluation, mediation, arbitration, and other forms of ADR. She is a trained mediator, facilitator and ombudsperson. Ms. Victor is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. She received her J.D. from Georgia State University and earned her B.A. in History, Phi Beta Kappa, from Agnes Scott College.
