UNITED STATES V. MICROSOFT CORPORATION -- NOTICE CONCERNING AVAILABILITY OF COMMENTS

Department Announces Procedures for Obtaining Copies of Comments

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Justice announced today that, in the antitrust case of United States v. Microsoft Corporation, the Department plans to publish the comments it received consistent with the procedures the Department has previously outlined to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where the case is pending. These procedures, which will ensure that the comments are readily available to interested persons, include publication of all the comments on the Department's website and the availability to the public, at no charge, of CD-ROMs containing all of the comments.

The Department has already made electronic copies of 47 detailed comments available on its website at www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/ms-major.htm. In addition, the Department:

(1) Has filed with the Court the one or more CD-ROMs containing the full text of comments;

(2) Will post on the Department of Justice website (www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/ms-comments.htm) electronic copies of all comments and a link to a compressed version (a "Zip" file) for download;

(3) Will submit for publication in the Federal Register a complete list of the names of all individuals or entities submitting comments, the number of pages of each comment, a unique tracking number assigned to each comment and an index to the comments placing them in one of six categories based primarily on the level of detail of the comment.

Interested persons seeking detailed instructions for viewing or downloading the comments from the Department's website should visit the Department's website at www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/ms-comments.htm. The instructions and comments should be available on the Department's website beginning March 4, 2002. In addition, interested persons seeking a copy of the full text of the comments on CD-ROM, at no cost (one copy to each individual person and five copies to each library or other institution that submits a request), may contact the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. at Antitrust Documents Group, 325 7th Street N.W., Ste. 215 North, Washington, D.C. 20530, 202-514-2481 (phone) or 202-514-3763 (fax).
