ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO TO TRAVEL TO MASSACHUSETTS TO
PARTICIPATE IN BOSTON RE-ENTRY INITIATIVE MEETING
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Attorney General Janet Reno will travel to Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 to participate in a meeting with the Boston Re-entry Initiative. The meeting will begin at 10:30 am and the Attorney General will address the issue of private sector involvement in offender reentry into communities.

* The first part of the meeting will be open to the press including the Attorney General's remarks. Due to space limitation, there will be a pool television camera at the event. The discussion between the business community and the Attorney General will not be open to the press.
The Boston Re-entry Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Boston Police Department (BPD) and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and is designed to effect successful transition back to the community of high risk ex-offenders. The Boston Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department work with their organizations and a large network of partners in other disciplines, to deter the highest risk inmates from reoffending upon completion of their sentences and re-entry into the community.
