    DIRECTOR OF JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN OFFICE
            TO VISIT BURLINGTON AND MONTPELIER ON THURSDAY
                                   
     Washington, DC -- Bonnie Campbell, in her first trip as
director of the Department of Justice's Violence Against Women
Office, will tour the Rape Crisis Center, in Burlington, on
Thursday, April 20, at 10:00 am, even as Congress ponders cutting
funds for the Crime Bill and its Violence Against Women Act.
     Following her tour, Ms. Campbell will travel to Montpelier
where she will hold a press availability with Governor Howard Dean
and Attorney General Jeff Amestoy.
     The following is Bonnie Campbell's public schedule:

Thursday, April 20

     Burlington:

     þ Tour the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations
       w/ VT Attorney General Jeff Amestoy at 9:00 am
       1100 Ethan Allen Avenue, Colchester
          
     þ Tour the Rape Crisis Center with AG Amestoy, 10:00 am

     Montpelier:

     þ Press availability with Governor Dean and AG Amestoy

     þ Meet with subcommittee of the VT Federal Crime Bill    
     Coordinating Group,      
       Pavilion Building, 5th Floor at 1:30 pm.

     Ms. Campbell's visit to Vermont is her final stop on a three-state tour that also included Rhode Island and Maine.
     The Violence Against Women Office was created to lead the
Administration's effort to implement the Violence Against Women
Act, along with the Department of Health and Human Services.  Ms.
Campbell oversees the Justice Department's efforts to combine new
federal criminal laws with assistance to states and localities to
fight violence against women.
