MEAT PROCESSING
Smithfield Foods is the largest pork processor in the
world, with fiscal 2002 production of 5.1 billion pounds of
high-quality fresh pork and processed meats. We supply
foodservice customers and retailers and own some of the
most popular retail and foodservice pork brands in the
world. |

INTERNATIONAL
Beginning in 1998. Smithfield Foods expanded beyond
US. borders with acquisitions in Canada, France and
Poland. In August 1999, the Company further developed
its international operations through a 50%-owned
integrated pork joint venture in Mexico. These acquisitions
give the Company strong market positions, high-quality
manufacturing facilities and excellent growth potential in
regions that have high pork consumption levels. |

HOG PRODUCTION
Smithfield Foods is the largest hog producer in the world
and the world's largest producer of exceptionally lean
hogs. Our commitment to vertical integration ensures a
steady supply of superior raw materials and helps to tame
industry cyclicality. We own and operate hog farms with
about 700,000 sows in North Carolina, South Carolina,
Virginia, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, South
Dakota, Missouri, Illinois, Mexico, Brazil and Poland. |
