INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Co-Chairs:
James F. Rill: Senior partner, Collier, Shannon, Rill & Scott. Assistant Attorney General of the Antitrust Division during the Bush Administration. As AAG, he was responsible for negotiating the US-EC antitrust cooperation agreement. Former Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law. Vice Chair, International Business and Industry Advisory Committee, OECD Competition Law and Policy Committee.

Paula Stern: President of the Stern Group, an economic and trade analysis firm that advises businesses on international competitiveness issues. Former Chairwoman of the U.S. International Trade Commission. Dr. Stern is actively involved in many public policy councils, including the President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations, the Advisory Committee of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and the U.S. Committee to Expand NATO.

Committee Members:
Zoe Baird: Senior Visiting Scholar and Senior Research Associate, Yale Law School. Formerly Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Aetna, Inc. Ms. Baird is a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. She will become President of the John and Mary R. Markle Foundation in January 1998.

Thomas E. Donilon: Partner, O'Melveny & Myers. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Donilon served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and as Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Warren Christopher, for which he received the State Department's highest award, the Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Donilon is currently co-chair of the Council on Foreign Relations' Congress and United States Foreign Policy Program.

John T. Dunlop: Lamont University Professor, Emeritus at Harvard University. He is a past Chairman of the Department of Economics at Harvard, former Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and was acting Director of the Business and Government Center at the School of Government. Secretary of Labor during the Ford Administration. Professor Dunlop is the author of numerous books on labor unions and industrial trade policy. In 1994, he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources.

Eleanor M. Fox: Walter Derenberg Professor of Trade Regulation at New York University School of Law. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Law Institute and the former chair of the Antitrust Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, Professor Fox is also the U.S. Chair of the tri-national bar association NAFTA Task Force.

Raymond V. Gilmartin: Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Merck & Company, Inc. Mr. Gilmartin is Director and Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and Chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Council. He is also a Director of the College Fund/The United Negro College Fund and a member of the Business Roundtable, the Business Council, and the Council on Competitiveness.    

Vernon E. Jordan, Jr.: Senior partner, Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. Mr. Jordan was President of the National Urban League, Executive Director of the United Negro College Fund, and Attorney-Consultant to the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity. He also has served on the President's Advisory Committee to the Points of Light Initiative Foundation, the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on South Africa, and the Advisory Council on Social Security. Mr. Jordan is a member of the American Law Institute, the National Bar Association and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Steven Rattner: Deputy Chief Executive of Lazard Fr鑽es & Co. Mr. Rattner has served as Vice Chairman of the Educational Broadcasting Corporation, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Royal Institute for International Affairs, and as a board member of The Russian-American Press and Information Center. In 1994 he was named a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum.

Richard P. Simmons: Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allegheny Teledyne Incorporated. In addition to his role as Chairman, President and CEO of Allegheny Teledyne, he is also director of Consolidated Natural Gas Company and PNC Bank Corporation. Mr. Simmons is a director and past Chairman of the United Way.

G. Richard Thoman: President and Chief Operating Officer of the Xerox Corporation. Prior to joining Xerox, Mr. Thoman was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the IBM Corporation, serving on IBM's Worldwide Management Council. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

David B. Yoffie: Max and Doris Starr Professor of International Business Administration, Harvard Business School. A three year chair of the School's international executive program, Managing Global Opportunities, he also directed Harvard's four year research project on global competition. He is a widely published author on international business and competitive strategy.

Executive Director
Merit E. Janow: Professor in the Practice of International Trade at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. She is also Co-Director of Columbia's APEC Study Center and a faculty member of the East Asian Institute and the Center on Japanese Economy and Business at Columbia. Professor Janow is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Society of International Law, the U.S. National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation, and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. From 1990 to 1993, she served as Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Japan and China.
