GEORGE N. ADDY

GEORGE N. ADDY is the senior partner heading the Competition and International Trade Law Group at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP. He was head of the Canadian Competition Bureau (1993-1996) and its merger review branch (1989-1993). He was also Executive Vice President at TELUS, Canada's second largest telecommunications firm. George joined Davies in 2002 and his practice covers all aspects of competition law including strategic advice and representation before competition authorities in Canada and abroad in relation to cartels, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and abuse of dominance and other reviewable trade practices. He is frequently consulted by Canadian and foreign-based business clients and law firms on competition issues in virtually every sector of the economy. He is consistently recognized as a leading competition law practitioner including in the Canadian LEXPERT Directory, LEXPERT/American Lawyer Media Guide to the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada, Law Business Research's Who's Who Legal: The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers (2002/3 and 2003/4), Chambers Global's The World's Leading Lawyers (2002/3, 2003/4, 2004/5 and 2005/6) by Global Counsel 3000 (2002/3 and 2003/4) and LEXPERT: Guide to the Leading 100 Canada/US Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada (2005). Fluently bilingual, he has spoken widely and published extensively in Canada, the United States and abroad. George is a Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the CBA, ABA and IBA and is an active member of numerous committees dealing with sectoral, legal and business issues. He is also Vice-Chairman and member of the Executive Board of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) at the OECD. He is the co-author of the first Canadian loose-leaf service on competition law, Competition Law Service. He has also testified before House of Commons and Senate Committees on competition policy, financial services, communications, transport and other matters. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1979 and the Alberta Bar in 1999.
