ABOUT INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REPORT
The International Competition Advisory Committee today submitted to the Department its final report on international antitrust and competition policy issues. This report is only the third advisory committee report on antitrust issues in the history of the Antitrust Division, and the first on international issues. Attorney General Janet Reno and Assistant Attorney General Joel I. Klein of the Antitrust Division issued the following statements:
Attorney General Reno:
"I appointed this Committee to recommend ways to enhance international cooperation among competition enforcement authorities and to remove unwarranted barriers to international trade in our global economy, and I look forward to reviewing its recommendations. I am enormously appreciative of the fine work of the Advisory Committee members and all who have participated in this important endeavor."
Assistant Attorney General Klein:
"It is hard to overestimate the importance of international antitrust enforcement and competition policy in our global economy. Competition is the engine that drives economic success, innovation, consumer benefit and the ability of businesses to succeed. This is just as true globally as domestically. This thoughtful and comprehensive report addresses the critical issues in global antitrust enforcement, and provides many useful recommendations for moving forward."
