The cutthroat trends in real estate are destroying the integrity of
the profession
The changes in the real estate industry are destroying the integrity
of the profession. The buying and selling of real estate is obviously
very important to our economy and monumental to homeowners. The "cutthroats"
have been offering very low commissions and delivering even lower value
service. While a capitalist society does function on a "buyer beware"system,
the far-reaching ramifications of mishandled transactions can and will
have a tremendous impact on our national and world economy. If a consumer
buys a poorly made barbeque grill, it is disappointing and they will
likely choose more wisely on their next purchase. I don't think it is
necessary to explain the differences between a such a purchase and something
as monumental as buying and selling a home. Real estate has historically
been the most sound investment. Discount agents do not provide the service
that quality realtors do, and by botching transactions, list prices,
etc. they pose a very real threat to homeowners, and more importantly
to our economy.
While consumers need to make educated choices and businesses deserve
the right to compete, there is a difference between encouraging competitive
prices and services and allowing rogues to disintegrate this economic
cornerstone of our society. The average homebuyer does not buy and sell
with enough frequency to learn the pitfalls of using the wrong sort
of realtor before it is too late. And the most qualified and professional
realtors obviously will not work for the same money that realtors who
provide little or no service will work for. We are left with a situation
that is encouraging a huge decline in the integrity of this extremely
important profession.
Thank you for your interest in my opinion.
Sincerely,,
Tracy M. Wisneski
