Kingston ACTIVITY REPORT OFFICE OF TRUST RECORDS May 1-31,2009 PROGRAMMATIC: • Labat-Anderson (Labat Indexing Project) Labat reported that indexing of 1,425 boxes of inactive Indian records was completed in May 2009. The total number of boxes completed through May 2009 is approximately 191,785. OTR anticipates termination of the contract with Labat on June 30, 2009. OTR will use federal employees to continue indexing records. • Movement of Records The Bureau ofIndian Affairs (BIA) and Office of the Special Trustee (OST) moved 203 boxes of inactive records from various field locations to Lenexa, Kansas, for indexing and subsequent storage at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) during this reporting period. • Site Assessments Statement During the month of May, OTRA performed two records management assessments, one each at the following locations: OST/J\fBC, Office of Appraisal Services, Navajo Region; and Santee OST 11M field office. OTRA performed three follow-up records management assessments, one each at the following locations: Navajo Region OST 11M field office; Winnebago Agency BIA office; and Winnebago Agency OST 11M field office. OTRA issued one records management assessment report for the Red Lake OST 11M field office. OTRA also issued four records management follow-up reports, one each atthe following locations: Great Lakes Agency BIA office; Minnesota Agency BIA office; Great Lakes Agency OST 11M office; and Minnesota Agency OST 11M field office. • Records Training In May 2009, OTR provided records management training for 81 BIA/OST records contacts and 35 Tribal employees. OTR provided training on vital records for 4 BIA/OST employees. • Litigation Support and Research Requests OTR continued to provide significant support to the Office ofthe Solicitor, Office of Historical Trust Accounting and its contractors, the Department of Justice and its contractors, and tribal attorneys and contractors on behalf of various 1 Tribes. OTR continued to receive requests for information regarding litigation­related document requests. Many ofthese requests have very short deadlines. During May 2009, AIRR staff provided responses to 111 non-litigation research requests from BIA, OST and other requesters. ADMINISTRATIVE: General administrative activities continued.
