Kingston ACTIVITY REPORT OFFICE OF TRUST RECORDS October 1-31, 2009 PROGRAMMATIC: • Indexing OTR staff completed indexing of 1,161 boxes in October 2009. The total number ofboxes completed through October 2009 is approximately 195,745. • Movement of Records The Bureau ofIndian Affairs (BIA) and Office ofthe Special Trustee (OST) moved 1,864 boxes ofinactive records from various field locations to Lenexa, Kansas, for indexing and subsequent storage at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) during this reporting period. • Site Assessments Statement During the month of October, OTRA performed ten records assessments, one each at the following locations: Olympic Peninsula Agency BIA office; Olympic Peninsula Agency OST IIM field office; Seattle Agency OST IIM field office; Northern Cheyenne Agency BIA office; Northern Cheyenne Agency OST IIM field office; Crow Agency BIA office; Crow Agency OST IIM field office; Rocky Mountain Region BIA office; Rocky Mountain Region OST IIM field office; and NBC, Office of Appraisal Services, Rocky Mountain Region. OTRA did not issue any new reports during this time. • Records Training In October 2009, OTR provided records management training for 17 BIAlOST records contacts and 30 tribal employees. OTR did not provide training on vital records this month. • Litigation Support and Research Requests OTR continued to provide significant support to the Office ofthe Solicitor, Office ofHistorical Trust Accounting and its contractors, the Department ofJustice and its contractors, and tribal attorneys and their contractors. OTR continued to receive requests for information regarding litigation-related document requests. Many ofthese requests have very short deadlines. During October 2009, OTR AIRR staff provided responses to 320 non-litigation research requests from BIA and OST. 1 ADMINISTRATIVE: General administrative activities continued.
