To be considered for a DEA Special Agent position,
you must meet qualifications described below as well
as any additional eligibility requirements. In addition,you
must pass all phases of the rigorous hiring process.
This will include successfully completing a 3 part
written assessment an oral interview, urinalysis drug
screening, medical examination, physical task assessment,
polygraph examination, psychological assessment, comprehensive
background investigation and final hiring decision.
- Are 21 years old, and no older than 36 years
at the time of appointment
- Are a U.S. citizen
- Have a valid U.S. driver's license
- Are willing to relocate anywhere in the U.S.
- Are able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security
- Are in excellent physical condition.
- Possess sharp hearing acuity (hearing aids are
disqualifying); Distance Vision: 20/20 or better
in one eye, 20/40 or better in the weaker eye.
If you need glasses or contact lenses to meet these
standards, then you should also have distance vision
of 20/200 or better in each eye without glasses
or contact lenses; Near Vision: 20/30 or better
(can be with corrective lenses); Normal color vision;
and Are able to carry 45 pounds or more, capable
of heavy lifting
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree (with a GPA
of 2.95 or higher), a Masters, or a LL.B. or J.D.
- Possess specialized experience
conducting narcotics/drug related investigations
of alleged or suspected violations of the law;
conducting surveillance and undercover activities
or operations, and apprehending, arresting persons
suspected of violations; and organizing evidence
for presentation to prosecution officials and testifying

- Possess 3 years or more substantive work
experience and Special Skills such as Pilot/Maritime,
Accounting/Auditing, Military, Technical/Mechanical
(includes Information Systems, Telecommunications,
Engineering), or Foreign Language fluency in
Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, dialects
of Nigerian languages, Chinese, Mandarin, Japanese,
Farsi, Urdu, or Balkan languages (fluency subject
to verification) and a
Bachelor’s degree or higher (no minimum
GPA is required) with coursework related to the
aforementioned Special Skill(s),
