For Life-Threatening Emergencies or Injuries …

(1) Call 911/EMS

(2) If suicide risk is a possibility, immediately…

  • Arrange for emergency assessment by the person’s EAP Area Clinician/Therapist/Physician or a local Hospital Emergency Room
  • Transport them for evaluation
    • Personally, or
    • With a trusted family member or friend, or
    • By calling 911/EMS
  • DO NOT allow the person out of sight until formal evaluation by a licensed medical and/or mental health professional has occurred

For Threats of Violence Against Others …

(1) As appropriate, go to/get others to a safe location

(2) Call Building Security for assistance

(3) Inform your immediate Supervisor(s)

(4) Call local Law Enforcement/911 for assistance if needed

 


For Operational Traumatic Incidents …

(1) Inform an Office Executive and your immediate Supervisor

(2) Inform the DEA Command Center at (202) 307-4228

(3) Inform the Employee Assistance Program:

  • Directly (202) 307-8160, or
  • Via the DEA Command Center (202) 307-4228, or
  • Via the EAP Help-Line (800) 275-7460

 


For Non-Operational Traumatic Incidents …

(1) Inform your immediate Supervisor so they can make a “bridge” to victims and
     offer support.

(2) Consult with the Employee Assistance Program about assistance options:

  • Directly (202) 307-8160, or
  • Via the DEA Command Center (202) 307-4228, or
  • Via the EAP Help-Line (800) 275-7460

(3) Maintain the privacy of the victims until you have their permission to:

  • Share incident information
  • Provide assistance
