HOW TO CLAIM VETERANS' PREFERENCE

If you are an applicant claiming veteran preference entitlement, you must submit upon the closing of this announcement, a copy of the Member Copy 4 of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty); official statement of service from your command if you are currently on active duty; or other official documentation (e.g., documentation of receipt of a campaign badge or expeditionary medal) that shows your military service was performed under honorable conditions.

In addition, if you are a disabled veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, or widow/widower of a veteran, the spouse of a disabled veteran or the natural mother of a disabled or deceased veteran, you must submit a Standard Form (SF) 15, "Application for 10-Point Veteran Preference," and the other required documentation identified on the reverse side of the SF-15 to support your preference claim.

Failure to provide the supporting documents may result in you receiving consideration only for the preference that can be supported.

  • If claiming 5-pt preference and you do not submit a copy of the Member Copy 4 of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) OR an official statement of service from your command if you are currently on active duty OR other official documentation (e.g., documentation of receipt of a campaign badge or expeditionary medal) that shows your military service was performed under honorable conditions, this will result in you receiving consideration as a non-veteran.

  • If claiming 10-pt preference and you do not submit a copy of the Member Copy 4 of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) OR an official statement of service from your command if you are currently on active duty OR other official documentation (e.g., documentation of receipt of a campaign badge or expeditionary medal) that shows your military service was performed under honorable conditions nor the other required documentation identified on the reverse side of the SF-15, "Application for 10 Point Veteran Preference", this will result in you receiving consideration as a non-veteran.

  • If claiming 10-pt preference and you submit a Member Copy 4 of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) and do not submit the other required documentation identified on the reverse side of the SF-15, "Application for 10 Point Veteran Preference", this will result in you receiving 5-pt preference.

  • If claiming 10-point DERIVED PREFERENCE, you MUST submit Member Copy 4 of the veterans'' DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), an SF-15 "Application for 10 Point Veteran Preference" and the other required documentation identified on the reverse side of the SF-15.  If you fail to do so, this will result in you receiving consideration as a non-veteran.
