Greer, Lyman Defendants Face Prescription Drug Charges
APR 9 -- (Columbia, SC)- Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald stated today that Ray Allen Waters, age 65, Chad Allen Waters, age 26, Tanisha Nicole Nix, age 28, Chaney Morris Matthews, age 29, all of Greer, and Lisa M. Waters, age 40, of Lyman, South Carolina, were charged in a three-count Indictment. Count one charges the defendants with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute oxycodone, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 846. Count two charges Ray Allen Waters with being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1); and Count three charges Ray Allen Waters with possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c)(1)(A).
Mr. McDonald stated the maximum penalty for Count one is a fine of $2,000,000.00 and imprisonment for thirty years. The maximum penalty for Count two is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment of ten years. The maximum penalty for Count three is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment of five years consecutive to any other term of imprisonment.
Mr. McDonald stated that the case was investigated by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and that he has assigned the case to Assistant United States Attorney David C. Stephens of the Greenville office for prosecution.
The Acting United States Attorney stated that all charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
