Effingham Man Sentenced for Illegally Dealing Prescription Drugs

APR 09 -- Columbia, South Carolina---- Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald and Rodney G. Benson, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the DEA Atlanta Field Division announced that Louis Andrew Miles, age 39, of Effingham, South Carolina, was sentenced in federal court in Florence for conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 846.  United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell sentenced Miles to 70 months imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release.

Miles and his father Louis Walter Miles illegally dealt in prescription painkillers between 2001 and 2009.  Investigators estimate that the men bought thousands of oxycodone pills from other drug dealers and sold them to users throughout the Pee Dee area.  Cooperating witnesses made undercover drug purchases from the men, resulting in their arrests.

Louis Walter Miles is awaiting sentencing.

The case was investigated by agents of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Diversion Unit. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, is prosecuting the case.
