DEA Acting Administrator Michele Leonhart and ONDCP Director John P. Walters Visit the Dominican Republic
MAR 3 -- SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Acting Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administrator (DEA), Michele Leonhart, and the Director of the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) John P. Walters conducted an official visit to the Dominican Republic to meet with Dominican President Leonel Fernandez, and with the highest ranking representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Armed Forces, the National Drug Control Directorate, the National Police, the National General Customs Directorate, and the National Drug Council.
The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, P. Robert Fannin, accompanied DEA Acting Administrator Leonhart and ONDCP Director Walters throughout their official visit.
During the meetings DEA Acting Administrator Leonhart and ONDCP Director Walters discussed with their Dominican counterparts important items related to the bilateral agenda of the United States and the Dominican Republic in their fight against international drug trafficking.
Upon their arrival on Monday, February 25, 2008, DEA Acting Administrator Leonhart and ONDCP Director Walters met with Dominican President Leonael Fernandez at the Dominican National Presidential Palace.
During Tuesday, February 26, 2008, DEA Acting Administrator and ONDCP Director Walters met with the Dominican Attorney General, Dr. Radhames Jimenez-Pena; with Major General Rafael Ramirez-Ferreira, President of the Dominican National Drug Control Directorate; with the Chief of Staff of the Dominican Navy, Rear Admiral Julio Cesar Ventura-Bayonet; with the Chief of the Dominican National Police, Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzman-Fermin; with Dr. Mabel Feliz, President of the Dominican National Drug Council; and with the Director of the Dominican General Customs Directorate, Dr. Miguel Cocco.
