DEA, USBP and PRPD Seize 924 kgs of
Cocaine and Arrest 14 in Salinas, Puerto Rico
Street value of seized cocaine estimated at over $18 million

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Pedro J. Janer, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Caribbean Division, in conjunction with FURA (Puerto Rico Police Department’s Maritime Unit) and the U.S. Border Patrol, announced today the arrest of fourteen individuals, the seizure of approximately 924 kilograms of cocaine, three weapons, three vehicles, and one boat.

Early this morning, a 24’ boat carrying three individuals and the 924 kilograms of cocaine reached the shores of Salinas, Puerto Rico. Eleven other individuals were awaiting their arrival and assisted in the offloading of the 924 kilograms of cocaine that were contained in 30 sacks. The cocaine was loaded into two SUV vehicles to be transported to another location.

DEA, Border Patrol and FURA Agents arrested the 14 individuals and seized the above mentioned narcotics, weapons and vehicles. Thirteen of the individuals arrested were Dominican Nationals along with one U.S. Citizen who resides in Puerto Rico.

The defendants will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico. If convicted, the defendants could face up to life in prison. Indictments and criminal complaints contain only charges and are not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. The investigation continues.
