Midland Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for
Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute

MAR 11 - United States Attorney John E. Murphy announced that in Midland this morning, 30-year-old Miguel Antonio Carrillo of Midland was sentenced by United States District Judge Robert Junell to 172 months in federal prison following his conviction for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Judge Junell also imposed an eight-year term of supervised release following Carrillo’s release from federal prison.

A federal jury convicted Carrillo of this offense on December 15, 2009. Testimony at trial established that on September 7, 2009, the Midland Police Department received information that Carrillo was on his way back to Midland from California with a quantity of methamphetamine meant for further distribution. Officers began watching for Carrillo’s vehicle on Interstate 20 that same day. When officers saw Carrillo’s vehicle in traffic, they attempted to pull him over, but he exited the interstate into the city of Odessa and evaded officers at speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour. Ultimately officers lost sight of him.

The next day, officers located Carrillo at a home in Midland, and a search of that home resulted in the recovery of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia. Jurors heard testimony that Carrillo admitted to officers after the search that he had made three trips to California to obtain methamphetamine over previous weeks, bringing back approximately three ounces each time.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Midland Police Department and Ector County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Parras prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
