Drug Trafficker Sentenced to 10 Years for Loading Tons of Marijuana

April 24 - (McAllen, TX) Gonzalo Iracheta-Tamez, 25, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison, DEA Special Agent in Charge Javier Peña and United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Vargas-Ocampo previously pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute in excess of 1000 kilograms of marijuana.

Today, U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez handed down the 1o-year sentence and further ordered he serve five years of supervised release following his release from prison.

On Sept. 22, 2011, Iracheta-Tamez loaded approximately 2,690 kilograms of marijuana from a storage location in Starr County, Texas, into passenger vehicles for further distribution of the marijuana.

Iracheta-Tamez has been in custody where he will remain pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prison facility to be determined in the near future.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jason Honeycutt.
