Mexican, U.S. Women Leading Law Enforcement Efforts Against
Transnational Crime

MAR 08 - (Los Angeles) – The Administrator for theU.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Michele M. Leonhart today met in Los Angeles with Mexican Attorney General Marisela Morales and Federal Police Chief Maribel Cervantes. Coincidentally today is International Women’s Day.

“I am honored to stand beside these remarkable women, Marisela Morales and Maribel Cervantes, on International Women’s Day,” Administrator Leonhart said. “It is a privilege to work with them as leaders in law enforcement.  Their courageous and inspiring efforts have been instrumental in Mexico’s fight for justice and enforcement of the rule of law.  They, like millions of other pioneering women around the world, continue to blaze trails in business, government, and law enforcement.  Both Marisela and Maribel are outstanding examples of how gender will never be an excuse or barrier to do great things.” 

As heads of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office, and Mexico’s Federal Police, the three women are key leadership figures in the U.S.-Mexico bilateral efforts to combat drug trafficking and transnational criminal organizations.
