Palmetto, Florida Man Convicted On Cocaine Charges
--Faces a Mandatory Sentence of Life--

April 27 - (Tampa, FL) - Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Field Division, and Robert E. O'Neill, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, announced today that a federal jury found Stanley Collins, 46, Palmetto, guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and attempt to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. Collins was indicted on February 23, 2012, and as a result of multiple prior felony convictions, he faces a mandatory sentence of life in federal prison. Collins is scheduled to be sentenced on July 25, 2012.

According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, as early as 2008 until his arrest in January 2012, Collins was involved in the regular receipt and distribution of multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine in the Palmetto area. On January 6, 2012, Collins attempted to purchase cocaine from a confidential informant and fled from the police in an attempt to evade arrest. Incident to his arrest, law enforcement seized $149,885.00, that Collins intended to use to purchase what he believed would be five kilograms of cocaine. The United States will seek forfeiture of the $149,885 seized from Collins.

This case was investigated by the DEA Tampa District Office, the Bradenton Police Department, and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
