Melbourne Man Convicted of Firearm and Drug Offenses

JULY 31(ORLANDO, Fla.) –Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge (SAC), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Miami Field Division, and A. Lee Bentley, III, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, announces today  that a federal jury found Lander Carlton McLovd (39, Melbourne) guilty of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and marijuana, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  McLoyd faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, up to a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.  His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 2013.  McLoyd was indicted on January 30, 2013. 
          
According to evidence presented at trial, a confidential source, working at the direction of law enforcement, purchased cocaine base from McLoyd’s residence in Melbourne, on two separate occasions.  A search warrant was executed at the residence on October 12, 2012.  During the execution of that search warrant, investigators found, among other things, cocaine base, marijuana, and three loaded firearms.  McLoyd has a prior federal felony conviction for conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, as well as prior state felony convictions for vehicular homicide, cocaine possession, and uttering a forged instrument.  Due to his prior federal conviction, he is facing enhanced penalties at sentencing.

This case was investigated by the DEA, Melbourne Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
