DEA, Warren County Prosecutorís Office and Pohatcong Township P.D. Arrest 8 involved in the Distribution of Prescription Narcotics

JUN 26 -- (NEWARK) – Gerard P. McAleer, Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division, Warren County Prosecutor Thomas S. Ferguson , and Chief Paul Hager from the Pohatcong Police Department, announce the arrest of eight (8) defendants involved in the distribution of prescription narcotics.

In keeping with the Governor’s Crime Plan & Safe Streets/Neighborhoods Initiative, Warren County Law Enforcement followed this anti-crime strategy of utilizing intelligence-led policing to target and eradicate a criminal organization which posed a risk to the safety and security of our community by investigating and arresting eight (8) individuals involved in the distribution of prescription narcotics.

The Pohatcong Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau developed intelligence and began conducting this investigation in the early part of 2009. This intelligence information allowed the Pohatcong Township Police Department and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force to conduct an investigation into the prescription drug distribution ring.

During this investigation, substantial additional assistance was provided by the Phillipsburg Police Department, the Lopatcong Township Police Department, the Greenwich Township Police Department, the Hackettstown Police Department, the Independence Township Police Department, the Blairstown Police Department, the Washington Township Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was the cooperation and dedication of this diverse group of law enforcement personnel that enabled us to have such a comprehensive and successful investigation.

This investigation revealed that Frank J. Stillo, Jr. was acquiring Ocycontin and other prescription drugs from sources in Essex County and then distributing these drugs within Warren County. Some of those individuals to whom Frank Stillo, Jr. was providing these prescription narcotics were themselves engaged in the further distribution of those drugs, at Frank Stillo’s request or with his backing, to persons in and around Warren County.

For his role in the drug distribution scheme, Frank J. Stillo, Jr. was arrested on June 24, 2009 and charged with being a Leader of a Narcotics Trafficking Ring, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-3, a first degree crime and Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1 and 2C:35-5a(1)/2C:35-5b(5). Hail was set by the Honorable Linda R. Feinberg, A.J.S.C., in the amount of $200,000 cash bail without the 10% option. The first degree charge carries a maximum penalty of up to twenty (20) years in New Jersey State Prison and a $750,000 fine. The third degree crime carries a maximum penalty of up to five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison and a $15,000 fine. Frank J. Stillo, Jr. was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility with a first appearance scheduled before Judge John H. Pursel, J.S.C. Courtroom No. 1, Warren County Courthouse, Belvidere, N.J. on Friday, June 26, 2009.

The remaining seven (7) individuals were each arrested and charged with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substances in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2 and 2C:35-5b(5), a third degree offense. All individuals with the exception of Jonathan Stillo were committed to the Warren County Correctional Center in lieu of bail which had been set at $25,000 without 10%. Jonathan Stillo was released on his own recognizance. Each third degree crime carries a maximum penalty of up to five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison and a fine of up to $15,000. First appearances for these individuals are scheduled before Judge John H. Pursel, J.S.C., Courtroom No. 1 Warren County Courthouse, Belvidere, N.J. on Friday June 26, 2009.
