Guilty Plea Brings Far-Reaching Federal
Methamphetamine Investigation Full Circle

APR 6 -- NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA -RAFAEL MARTINEZ, age 29, a resident of Dallas, Texas, pled guilty in federal court on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 before U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten and Drug Enforcement Administration, Special Agent In Charge Jimmy S. Fox III.

MARTINEZ’s conviction results from two related investigations spanning nearly three years. These investigations have led to the indictment of thirty-five (35) individuals on federal controlled substance violations, and the dismantling of three high level methamphetamine trafficking organizations operating throughout several parishes in southeast Louisiana, as well as the cities of San Diego, California, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Dallas, Texas. MARTINEZ faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a fine of up to $4 million, five (5) years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment fee.

The individuals indicted and awaiting trial for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine include ZACHARY ZAMORANO, age 31, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, JODY HILLIARD, age30, a resident of Prairieville, Louisiana, MARIO GIL, age35, a resident of Houma, Louisiana, MARK PRICE, age 29, a resident of Morgan City, Louisiana, Jr., RODDY TOUCHET, age 49, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, ALETHA AGEE, age 35, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, JAMES GACHASSIN, Jr., age 34, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, GAYLE BOOTY,age 68, a resident of Morgan City, Louisiana, and FELIX TINAJERO-RICARDEZ, age 60, a resident of San Diego, California.

The case was investigated by the Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration with the assistance of the Berwick Police Department, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Louisiana State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Theodore Carter.
