Several Charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine in Fayetteville, Arkansas

JAN 19 -- Deborah Groom, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, announced on January 15, 2010, the following individuals appeared for initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Erin L. Setser in Fayetteville, Arkansas for charges by Criminal Complaint:

- Arturo Umana, age 35, of Springdale, Arkansas who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C.§§ 841(a)(1) and 846; one count of distribution of more than 5 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B)(viii); and one count of distribution of more than 50 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A)(viii).

- Luis Calderon, age 19, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C.§§ 841(a)(1) and 846; and one count of distribution of more than 5 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B)(viii).

- Martin Avila, age 25, of Lowell, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846; and one count of distribution of more than 5 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B)(viii).

- Danilo Ramirez, age 34, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C.§§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

- Lee King, age 46, of Rogers, Arkansas , who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846; and one count of distribution of more than 50 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A)(viii); and one count of distribution of more than 5 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B)(viii).

- James Stewart, age 47, of Mulberry, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846; and one count of distribution of more than 50 grams of actual methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A)(viii).

- Maricela Hernandez, age 34, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

- Laura Alfaro, age 33, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

- Edwin Peraza-Mejia, age 27, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

- Mario Ramirez, Jr., age 33, of Noel, Missouri , who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

-Ruben Coronado-Licon, age 18, of Springdale, Arkansas, who is charged by Criminal Complaint with one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C.§§ 841(a)(1) and 846.

In addition to the arrests of these individuals, federal, state and local law enforcement officers executed eight federal search warrants at locations in Benton and Washington Counties and seized methamphetamine and large amount of money and other evidence. The arrests and search warrants resulted from a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Postal Inspection Service (USPS), Arkansas National Guard, Arkansas State Police, Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Bentonville Police Department, Fayetteville Police Department, Rogers Police Department, Siloam Springs Police Department, and Springdale Police Department. These law enforcement agencies were assisted throughout the investigation by the Benton County and Washington County Prosecutor’s Offices and the United States Attorney’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.

A Criminal Complaint is a form of accusation and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
