Special Agent In Charge Addresses ASIS Internation On the Role of DEA
In The Intelligence Community

MAR 14 -- (Manhattan, NY) - On March 14, 2008 Special Agent in Charge John P. Gilbride was the keynote speaker at the ASIS International luncheon held at The University Club.

ASIS International is the largest organization for security professionals, with more than 35,000 members worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. ASIS also advocates the role and value of the security management profession to business, the media, governmental entities, and the public. By providing members and the security community with access to a full range of programs and services, and by publishing the industry's number one magazine - Security Management - ASIS leads the way for advanced and improved security performance.

Special Agent in Charge Gilbride spoke on the importance the Drug Enforcement Administration role is in the intelligence community. Special Agent in Charge Gilbride discussed traditional money laundering trends, such as Derivatives and Securities Markets, Money Remitters and Wire Transfers, and Bulk Currency Transfers and mentioned a possible new trend involving Virtual Worlds. He also addressed DEA's role in gathering intelligence on narco-terrorists and highlighted several New York cases, such as the FARC indictment, and the arrests of International arm dealers, Monzar Kassar and Victor Bout. The SAC also spoke about the challenges involved in the diversion of legal drugs via the Internet.
