Pennsylvania Man Sentenced to 138 Months

OCT 19 -- JOHN P. GILBRIDE, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York Field Division (“DEA”) and United States Attorney Andrew T. Baxter announced that on Thursday, October 15, 2009, Aaron Shefler, 31, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Norman A. Mordue to 138 months of imprisonment and 5 years supervised release. He pled guilty on April 28, 2009 in Syracuse to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in excess of 100 kilograms (220 lbs.), as well as using, carrying and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm by a drug user.

Shefler was arrested on April 6, 2006 in St. Lawrence County in Northern New York with three other men as he was attempting to purchase a large quantity of marijuana. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a loaded .45 caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol with a laser sight, as well as $126,000 in U.S. Currency. An additional $200,000 was seized from a hotel room 10 miles away occupied by a co-conspirator. Shefler operates J&A Autos, a used car dealership, in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. Shefler also appears in a music video (“Gettin Mine”, by Boaz), which contains images of individuals carrying large amounts of money and being surveilled by a person portrayed as DEA agent. Four other co-conspirators have pled guilty and been sentenced in this case:

Vance Hall, 26, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was sentenced on October 14, 2009 to 60 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release in connection with his convictions for conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in excess of 100 kilograms (220 lbs.); using, carrying and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime; and possession of a firearm by a drug user.

Carl Crump, 34, of St. Lawrence County, New York was sentenced on June 11, 2009 to 24 months of imprisonment and 4 years of supervised release in connection with his conviction for conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in excess of 100 kilograms (220 lbs.).

David Hartley, 59, of St. Lawrence County, New York was sentenced on September 8, 2009 to 24 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release in connection with his conviction for conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in excess of 100 kilograms (220 lbs.).

Craig Barber of St. Lawrence County, New York was sentenced on October 15, 2009 to one year and one day in prison and 4 years supervised release in connection with his conviction for conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana in excess of 100 kilograms (220 lbs.).

Matthew Roszner, 33, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is scheduled to be sentenced on November 30, 2009.
