Record Number Of Arrests To Take Place In Operation Crystal Blue Persuasion
AUG 17 -- (SEATTLE) – DEA Special Agent in Charge Arnold R. Moorin, along with United States Attorney Jeff Sullivan and Seattle Police Chief R. Gil Kerlikowske announced today the results of Operation Crystal Blue Persuasion.
In January 2007, Seattle Police Major Crimes Task Force, Seattle Police Narcotics Section, and the Drug Enforcement Administration Mobile Enforcement Team joined forces to form a task force under the operational code name “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” The task force set out to attack the methamphetamine trade in Seattle, with the goal of impacting crimes fueled by methamphetamine users such as Auto Theft, Identity Theft, and Burglary.
The results of the operation as reported in a press conference held today at the Seattle Police Department revealed the task force made more than 131 weapon and drug purchases. Illegal drugs purchased had a street value of more than $943,000 dollars. In addition to weapons and drug seizures, the operation netted more than $467,870 in currency and $394,270 in other assets.
To date, the operation has secured 13 federal and 123 state indictments against suspects involved in drug trafficking, weapons sales, auto theft, burglary, and identity theft. Although the majority of illegal activity was in and around the Seattle metropolitan area, the operation led investigators to other areas throughout the State of Washington to include Everett, Yakima, and Tacoma, Washington.
“There are certain elements of crime that erode away at the fabric of our communities and businesses. Those persons and organizations responsible for narcotics trafficking and crimes associated with narcotics trafficking are many times at the core of this problem” commented DEA Special Agent in Charge Arnold R. Moorin. “It is the goal of DEA to work with our law enforcement partners in order to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the communities we live in, and to bring to justice those persons and organizations that damage our cities and communities with drug trafficking activity.”
The success of this joint investigation is a tribute to the dedicated men and women of the Seattle Police Department and the DEA who have worked tirelessly over the past eight months to provide the citizens and business owners of Seattle with a safer place to live and work.
Statistics kept and reported by the Seattle Police Department revealed the operation led to a 20% reduction in auto theft as reported from 2006 statistics; a 19% reduction in burglaries as reported from 2006 statistics; and a 7% reduction in theft as reported from 2006 statistics.
The current investigations which comprise Operation “Crystal Blue Persuasion” are ongoing and both Seattle Police and the DEA expect additional arrests and prosecutions to be made.
