Collinsville Man Sentenced for Role in Marijuana Conspiracy

APR 13 - (EAST ST. LOUIS, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that on April 9, 2010, RICKY GRIFFIN, SR., age 43, of Collinsville, Illinois, was sentenced to 292 months’ imprisonment, 10 years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment of $100 and a $1,000 fine.

The conspiracy operated between 2000 until approximately March 2008. A federal grand jury returned an indictment alleging conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute marijuana. GRIFFIN pled guilty to the charge in the indictment on June 12, 2009.

Evidence supporting this conviction was obtained in an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The investigation was conducted under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), an initiative designed to bring together federal, state, and local resources and law enforcement personnel to identify and dismantle national and international drug organizations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel T. Kapsak.
