Arizona: The Drug Medicalization, Prevention, and Control Act of 2002 The
Nevada Initiative
This
year a new initiative will go before Nevada voters on the issue of marijuana
legalization. Under the proposed initiative anyone 21 years of age or
older will be permitted to use or possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana
without any legal or criminal ramifications. This initiative would also
authorize a distribution system for marijuana and impose a tax on marijuana
sales. Ohio: Initiative Proposes Treatment Without Accountability: Ohio
is proposing an initiative that would grant first and second offense drug
offenders an absolute right to treatment. Under this initiative,
drug users who commit crimes such as theft are no longer responsible for
paying restitution to victims if they go through a treatment program.
However, completion of the treatment program does not require successful
completion. Such programs are not as effective as drug
treatment courts which combine treatment with accountability to support
recovery from addiction.
