  • October 15 --The annual Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Red Ribbon Rally, which was held on the steps of the State Capitol in Austin, Texas. SAC Zoran Yankovich kicked-off the opening ceremonies in Houston, Texas with entertainment provided by the Houston Rockets Launch Crew. The Houston event was attended by local dignitaries including Master of Ceremony Mia Gradney, News Anchor, CW39, Mayor Bill White, Houston, Texas, Tim Johnson, United States Attorney, Southern District of Texas, Chief Harold Hurt, Houston Police Department, Sheriff Adrian Garcia, Harris County, Chief Jimmie Dotson, Houston Independent School District, SAC Rodney Clarke, Internal Revenue Service, SAC Steve Martin, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and ASAC Rick Powers, Federal Bureau of Investigation. Upon arrival at the State capitol, the students marched as a group to the steps of the State Capitol where the Red Ribbon ceremony was held. During this ceremony Resident Agent in Charge Greg Thrash spoke at length on the history of the Red Ribbon Campaign. Thereafter, Chief Art Acevedo, Austin Police Department and Colonel Tony West and Patsy Torres provided entertainment to the audience. The student representatives were then escorted to the House of Representative and Senate Chambers to stage the passing of the mock bill. As a reminder of DEA’s commitment to drug education and prevention, the Houston Division Office will exhibit a full size billboard representing the Houston skyline, with the recipients displayed as gold stars. “Our goal is to fill the skyline with stars.” These outstanding organizations will be further honored with a duplicate full size billboard in their community.
