DEA Demand Reduction - Street Smart Prevention

Working with the Public

DEA’s demand reduction program provides the public with current and important information on the dangers of drugs. Many segments of the public benefit from this information, and DEA’s field Demand Reduction coordinators regular speakers at town hall meetings, seminars, training sessions, educational forums and hundreds of other public events. The Demand Reduction program engages parents, faith-based communities, medical and other professionals and young people

Informing parents around the nation about how drugs negatively affect families is a central element of DEA’s Demand Reduction program. Detroit Special Agent Rich Isaacson discusses drug trends with parents.

On June 8, 2006, DEA hosted the first-ever national vigil for families directly affected by the loss of a loved one to drugs. Over 500 people gathered to share stories and emotions.

Young people of all ages need to know about the dangers of drugs, and DEA’s Demand Reduction program uses innovative and effective strategies to deliver information to college, high school, middle school and elementary school age young people around the country.

Matt Birk, Minnesota Vikings Center hosted a pizza party at the Vikings Headquarters for a local 4th grade class. Each student received a “Team Up Against Drugs! Be a Winner-Be Drug Free” poster, designed by the DEA Demand Reduction Coordinator. The seven Minneapolis-area professional sports teams provided a drug-free athlete role model which was used in the poster.
