Local
Law Enforcement Credited with Valuable Assistance
JUN
6 - Detroit, MI - The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Detroit
Task Force struck a crippling blow against a violent narcotics organization
on Friday afternoon. The Task Force, which includes representatives from
the Detroit Police Department, Sterling Heights Police Department, Michigan
State Police, Warren Police Department, and U.S. Immigration Naturalization
Service executed five search warrants and arrested six individuals, three
of which held high positions within the organization. The agents also
seized more than five kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value
in excess of $500,000, a quarter kilogram of heroin, two semi-automatic
handguns, a shotgun and six vehicles.
Among
those arrested was Duryane Chaney the owner/operator of Mr. C's Car Wash,
which was the primary location searched on Friday. Chaney has a violent
criminal history that includes a conviction on felony weapons possession
and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The organization
was responsible for distributing multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine
and heroin on Detroit's westside. By attacking the organization's command
and control this group of individuals will no longer be capable of furthering
their illicit enterprise.
Detroit DEA Special
Agent in Charge (SAC) Michael Braun credited the success of this operation
to the exceptional cooperation between the numerous law enforcement agencies
that were involved. In particular, SAC Braun recognized Task Force Agent
Ron Carver, of the Warren Police Department for his investigative and
organizational efforts on this investigation.
The investigation
is ongoing with the agents in pursuit of additional members within the
organization as well as the source(s) of supply for the cocaine and heroin.
