Task Force Dismantle Major Drug Syndicate
Louisville,
KY- On April 3, 2003, members of the Kentucky State Police (KSP) and
the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Louisville Task Force and
the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky
announced the seizure of a major drug and weapons cache from a high-level
drug organization operating in Nelson County, Kentucky.
On April 2, 2003,
search warrants were executed at 11569 New Haven Road and 279 Halisy Wood
Loop in Nelson County, Kentucky. The searches resulted in the seizure
of:
- Approximately
1177 pounds of marijuana
- Approximately
13 pounds of cocaine
- Over $300,000
in U.S. Currency
- Approximately
60 weapons, including handguns, rifles, and assault weapons
- Three sports utility
vehicles and five all terrain vehicles were seized pending forfeiture
Francis Wayne GREENWELL,
age 55, was arrested at the residence at the time of the search warrants.
Greenwell faces multiple federal charges relating to narcotics distribution
and weapons violations. On April 3, 2003, Greenwell was brought before
a U.S. Magistrate Judge for his initial appearance and a detention hearing
will be held in the coming days to determine if Greenwall will be held
without bond.
"This will be
a major blow to drug traffickers in Central Kentucky. The Kentucky State
Police have done a great job and we'll continue to work with them to dismantle
the entire drug syndicate. Obviously, it stretches beyond the Kentucky
State line," said Gary Oetjen, DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge
for Kentucky.
"The Kentucky
State Police and the DEA Louisville Task Force have had a long and productive
relationship and this is one example of the significant investigations
our partnership produces," said Tony King, Resident Agent in Charge
of the DEA Louisville Office.
