Waterbury Man Sentenced to More Than Nine Years in Federal Prison
for Cocaine Trafficking

JUL 24 -- Kevin L. Lane Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DANIEL MALDONADO, also known as “Pito,” 28, of Waterbury, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 112 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of cocaine. MALDONADO pleaded guilty to the charge on October 5, 2007.

On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging MALDONADO and several other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin in central Connecticut. During the course of the 10-month investigation underlying the Indictment, law enforcement officers conducted multiple controlled purchases of crack cocaine from MALDONADO in Waterbury. The investigation also revealed that MALDONADO was supplying other individuals in Waterbury with re-distribution quantities of cocaine.

This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Waterbury Police Department and the Meriden Police Department.
