friendly page] St. Paul Man Federally Indicted on Methamphetamine AUG 06 -- (Minneapolis) – A federal grand jury sitting in the District of Minnesota has indicted a 32- year old St. Paul man with distributing methamphetamine. Israel Garcia Rea was charged on August 4, 2008 in Minneapolis with two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive and dangerous drug, which on the street can sell for as high as $12,000 per pound. The total amount of methamphetamine Rea is charged with distributing is over two pounds. The first count of the indictment alleges that on July 1, 2008 Rea knowingly and intentionally possessed with intent to distribute approximately 440.71 grams of suspected methamphetamine . The second count allegedly occurred on July 2, 2008, when Rea allegedly distributed approximately 888.08 grams of suspected methamphetamine. The indictment is the result of an investigation by the DEA and Dakota County Drug Task Force, which involved a methamphetamine distribution operation in Dakota and Ramsey Counties. During the course of the investigation, a K-9 officer gave an alert to the possible presence of narcotics in the driver’s door and the rear portion of Rea’s vehicle during a traffic stop by the police. Officers subsequently seized 888.08 grams of methamphetamine from the rear cargo area and arrested Rea. If convicted, Rea faces a potential maximum penalty of life in prison. All sentences are determined by a federal district court judge. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nancy E. Brasel. The public is reminded that the charges are allegations only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at trial or by a guilty plea.
