Arrest of Victor Serrano For Impersonating A Federal Agent

OCT 24 -- (El Paso, TX) – Dan Stitt, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), El Paso Field Division, announced the arrest of Victor Serrano on October 22, 2008.

Serrano was arrested by a DEA Task Force for impersonating a Federal Agent on October 22, 2008. Serrano’s arrest is related to the Jorge Mercado investigation, which culminated on September 18-19 2008 when eight defendants were arrested. The Task Force consisted of DEA, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso Police Department, United States Border Patrol, United States Marshal Service, and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Dan Stitt, Acting Special Agent in Charge, stated “any person who attempts to fraudulently portray himself as a federal agent for any reason is a serious threat to public safety and will be investigated by DEA and our law enforcement partners. The U.S. Attorneys office will prosecute to the fullest extent possible.”

The defendant are presumed innocent unless and until convicted through the due process of law
