Iowa Man Sentenced to 21 Years for Distributing Methamphetamine

AUG 25 -- Des Moines, IA - On August 21, 2008, Nathan Robert ENGEL, 27 years old, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was sentenced to over 21 years in prison (262 months) for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine in western Iowa, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. The Honorable Robert Pratt, Chief Judge, United States District Court, also ordered ENGEL to serve a ten year term of supervised release following incarceration and ordered him to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

ENGEL entered a guilty plea to conspiring to distributing methamphetamine in western Iowa between July 2005 and April 2006 on July 27, 2007. ENGEL was involved in a network that distributed methamphetamine received from Mexico through Omaha into western Iowa.

The investigation was conducted by the Council Bluffs, Iowa, Police Department, the SWINE Task Force, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Pottawattamie County Attorney’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
