New Bedford Man Sentenced to 164 Months on Gun and Drug Charges

JUN 29 -- BOSTON, MA - A New Bedford man was sentenced today in U.S. District Court for distribution of cocaine and sale of an unregistered firearm.

Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks, Steven Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Office, Glenn N. Anderson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Boston Field Division announced today that GERARDO ROSARIO, age 43, of New Bedford, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock to thirteen and one-half years imprisonment, to be followed by six years of supervised release. ROSARIO pled guilty to two counts of distribution of cocaine and one count of selling an unregistered firearm on February 25, 2009.

ROSARIO sold one half ounce of powder cocaine to an undercover agent on April 26, 2009 and one ounce of powder cocaine on June 9, 2006. On June 29, 2006, ROSARIO sold a sawed-off shotgun to a cooperating witness. At the sentencing, the Court concluded that ROSARIO had made a number of other drug sales in addition to the ones to which he pled guilty.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Kanwit of Loucks’ Major Crimes Unit.
