JUL 31 -- Boston, MA . . . A former Massachusetts State Trooper was sentenced late yesterday in U.S. District to a prison term of 37 months.

Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division; Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks; Colonel Mark Delaney, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced that JOHN T. FOLEY, age 64, of Saugus, was sentenced by the Honorable Richard G. Stearns to 37 months imprisonment to be followed by 3 years of supervised release. The Court also recommended 500 hours Residential Drug Abuse Program.

FOLEY , who was assigned to the Revere State Police Barracks and had been a member of the State Police since October 1971, pled guilty on May 20, 2009 to charges that he and codefendant PATRICIA MESHNA, Conspired to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone and Distribution and Possession Of Cocaine With Intent To Distribute.

MESHNA is scheduled for sentencing on August 18, 2009 before Judge Stearns.

The case resulted from an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration's Tactical Diversion Squad, Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
