friendly page] Waterbury Man Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison for Cocaine Trafficking
AUG 03 -- Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that AMAURY PIRIS, 35, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was sentenced, yesterday, July 30, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of cocaine. PIRIS pleaded guilty to the charge on August 30, 2007. On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging PIRIS and numerous other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin in central Connecticut. During the course of the 10-month investigation underlying the Indictment, PIRIS was intercepted on a wiretap arranging the acquisition of approximately two kilograms of cocaine by a third party. This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Waterbury Police Department and the Meriden Police Department. |
