Former Branford Pharmacy Technician Who
Stole Painkillers Sentenced to Federal Prison

SEP 16 -- Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that VICKI DiBENE, 30, of New Haven, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford to five months of imprisonment, followed by two years of supervised release, the first five months of which DiBENE must spend in home confinement. On June 17, 2009, DiBENE pleaded guilty to one count of possessing Vicodin ES, a Schedule III controlled substance, with intent to distribute.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, DiBENE was employed as a Pharmacy Technician, Inventory Specialist, at the Branhaven CVS, located in Branford. DiBENE’s job responsibilities included placing orders for medications for the pharmacy from drug wholesalers. Beginning in approximately January 2008, DiBENE knowingly removed unopened bottles of Vicodin ES from the pharmacy. DiBENE possessed the bottles of Vicodin ES with the intent to deliver them to another person. DiBENE also ingested an unknown quantity of the pills herself.

From approximately January 2008 through June 4, 2008, DiBENE possessed with the intent to distribute 60 100-count bottles of Vicodin ES.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Drug Control Division.
