Brockton Man Sentenced for Possession of a Loaded Pistol

OCT 02 -- BOSTON, MA - A Brockton man was sentenced yesterday to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division; Acting United States Attorney Michael K. Loucks; and Chief William K. Conlon of the Brockton Police Department announced that JERREAU PELOTE, age 25, of Brockton was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel to 60 months in prison, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, after pleading guilty in June of 2009 to a single count Indictment charging PELOTE with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the Government’s evidence would have proven that on or about August 14, 2008, PELOTE, a previously-convicted felon, possessed a Cobra Model FS380 .380 pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, which was recovered as a result of an investigation conducted by the Brockton Police Department. Federal Law prohibits individuals previously convicted of a felony from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Brockton Police Department.
