friendly page] Woonsocket Man Guilty of Crack Cocaine Trafficking NOV 03 -- A federal judge has fo und Stephfon Cover, 37, of Woonsocket, guilty of trafficking in crack cocaine. Codefendant Stephanie Fath, 32, of the same address as Cover, pleaded guilty to her role in their crack distribution conspiracy, and is serving a five-year federal prison sentence. Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha announced the verdict, which Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi handed down yesterday in U.S. District Court, Providence. Cover is detained pending sentencing, which is scheduled for February 12, and faces a mandatory minimum ten years in prison. During a non-jury trial in August, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie S. Browne presented evidence that, in August 2008, Cover and codefendant Stephanie Fath sold crack cocaine in Cranston. Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force agents monitored the transaction. Fath admitted to two additional crack transactions in August 2008, one in Newport and one in Cranston. Cover was charged with taking part in those deals, but Judge Lisi acquitted him of those charges, finding that he was not directly involved in the transactions. The buyer paid a total of $1,440 for a total of about 25 grams of crack cocaine in the three transactions. Judge Lisi found Cover guilty of conspiracy and distributing crack cocaine. Fath pleaded guilty to conspiracy and three charges related to the distribution of crack cocaine. Undercover detectives from Cranston and Newport Police were part of the DEA Task Force that investigated the case. |
