AUG 27 -- (Madison) Stephen P. Sinnott, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Donta Thomas, 29, of Madison, Wisconsin was sentenced on August 25, 2009 for possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb sentenced Thomas to 150 months imprisonment, followed by eight years of supervised release, after Thomas pled guilty to the charges on April 27, 2009.

Thomas sold crack cocaine to an undercover officer in Madison on six different occasions between October 2008 and January 2009. An additional ounce of crack cocaine and a gun were seized from Thomas’ Madison home following the execution of a search warrant. Thomas has four prior drug offenses, as well as an armed robbery charge and weapons charge pending.

The investigation that led to the charges was conducted jointly by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
