"Speed" Trafficker Pleads Guilty on Charge of Possession With Intent to Distribute
- Nearly two pounds of methamphetamine, 47 firearms seized

JAN 22 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that on January 20, 2009, Jose Pizarro, age 36, of Jefferson County, Kentucky, pled guilty to possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.

Pizarro admitted that on August 9, 2008, an unnamed individual arranged for Jose Pizarro to deliver approximately one pound of methamphetamine to a residence in Bullitt County, Kentucky. Pizarro drove from his residence in Jefferson County to the Bullitt County residence to deliver the methamphetamine. Once he arrived at the Bullitt County residence, he was arrested by a member of the Bullitt County Drug Task Force. When he was arrested, Pizarro was carrying a package containing approximately 1 pound of methamphetamine. Pizarro consented to a search of his residence in Jefferson County, where another pound of methamphetamine, $4,550.00 in United States Currency and 43 firearms were discovered.

The maximum potential penalties are life imprisonment, a $4,000,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 5 years. The minimum potential penalty is 10 years imprisonment. Pizarro also agreed to forfeit $4,550.00 in cash, two vehicles, and a total of 47 firearms.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas W. Dyke, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bullitt County Drug Task Force and the Meade County Drug Task Force.

The plea was entered before United States District Judge Jennifer B. Coffman, in Louisville, Kentucky. Pizarro is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Coffman on May 18, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.
