Two Assistant Police Chiefs in Kentucky
Arrested on Prescription Drug Charges
Glasgow Police Officers Also Charged with Threatening a Witness

FEB 05 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that a federal grand jury in Bowling Green returned an indictment against Johnny Lee Travis, age 41, of Glasgow, Kentucky, and Maxie Christopher Murray, age 36, of Glasgow, Kentucky, on charges of illegally possessing hydrocodone and threatening a witness. Travis and Murray are both majors in the Glasgow Police Department.

The Indictment alleges that between February 2004 and January 2008, Travis and Murray illegally possessed hydrocodone without a legitimate medical prescription, and that between November 2007 and June 2008 they intimidated and threatened a witness with the intent to prevent the witness from reporting a crime to a law enforcement officer.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 21 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 3 years.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Barren County Drug Task Force.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on February 18, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
