Illegal Alien Sentenced to Five Years
-DEA and ICE investigation led to felon previously convicted of
smuggling illegal aliens

FEB 25 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that Martin Rodriguez-Mejia, age 37, of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, was sentenced on February 20, 2009, to 5 years and 3 months imprisonment in United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky on charges of being found in the United States after having been previously deported. United States District Judge John G. Heyburn also sentenced Rodriguez-Mejia to 2 years supervised release following incarceration. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.

Rodriguez-Mejia, an alien and citizen of Mexico, had previously pled guilty and admitted that on February 9, 2008, he was found in the United States after having been previously deported, and he did not have the consent of the Attorney General of the United States and the Department of Homeland Security to be present in the United States.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel P. Kinnicutt, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
