MAY 11 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that a federal grand jury in Louisville returned an indictment against Jawad Shahid Al Salman, age 24, of Louisville, Kentucky, on charges of distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute Oxycontin,

The Indictment alleges that on March 9, 2009, and March 12, 2009, Al Salman possessed with the intent to distribute Oxycontin, an addictive Schedule II controlled pain killer.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 40 years’ imprisonment, a $2,000,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of at least 3 years.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Al Salman is scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on May 19, 2009, at 9:30 a.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.
